How to Download Music from Spotify to Mobile Devices
You can download playlists, albums, or podcasts on mobile devices.
The user interface is slightly different on Android and iOS, but the process is similar.
Search the playlist or album you wish to download. On Android, tap the Download button in the top right. On iOS, tap the down arrow in the upper left corner.
A down arrow appears under each track on the album. They will turn green when the download is complete. The time required depends on your internet speed.
If you’re offline and want to listen, tap your library> Music and find your music in albums or playlists. When the album or playlist has been downloaded and is available for offline use, the green down arrow is displayed.
If you know you’re offline for a while, like on an airplane, turn on offline mode, which only shows the downloaded content. On Android, tap Start and the Settings icon in the top right corner and enable offline mode. On iOS, tap Start> [gear icon]> Play> Offline.
How to Delete Albums and Music on Spotify
If you no longer need offline access or want to free up space on your device, go to the album or playlist you want to remove from the downloads and just uncheck the Downloaded (Android) button. Or tap the green down arrow on the left and tap Delete in the pop-up window (iOS).
How to Download Spotify Podcasts on Mobile
Spotify is one of our most popular podcast apps and a convenient way to keep your music and podcasts in one place. For offline use, you can download individual episodes that you want to watch, or follow a specific podcast and download episodes as they appear in your library. The downloading steps are the same on Android and iOS.
First, find or search a podcast you want to listen to. On the podcast page, you can press the down arrow to download certain episodes instantly. Or tap Watch to add new episodes to your library as soon as they’re released. You can then download episodes at any time from your library> Podcasts> Episodes. Downloaded episodes can be found in your library> Podcasts> Downloads.
How to Keep Data when Downloading
If you’re charging your phone with a range of albums and playlists, you may want to limit these downloads when you’re connected to WiFi so that the process doesn’t affect your monthly amounts of data. On iOS, go to Start> [gear icon]> Music Quality> Download to phone. On Android, it’s Home> [gear icon]> Download with a mobile phone.
How to Download Spotify Music on Desktop
On the desktop, you can only download playlists with Spotify, not albums or podcasts.
Find the playlist you want to download and tap the Download button in the top right. When you are done, Downloaded is displayed. Downloaded playlists have green down arrow on the left menu. Click the button again to remove the download.
Note:
To prevent users from downloading a lot of content to their devices and then canceling their premium subscriptions, Spotify must connect to the Internet at least every 30 days. A cellular connection is fine. Otherwise, you will lose access to downloaded music and podcasts after a month.
Troubleshooting
Can’t download additional songs? This could be because you have reached such a frustrating limit of 3333 songs per device. In this case, you should remove a playlist from your offline playlist. This frees up space for the songs you want to download.
It should also be noted that you can only download songs on three devices at the same time. Try adding more, and you will be at a dead end. If you get to this point, the only way to turn around is to turn off offline listening on one of the other devices.
