This was the first scary message I got exactly 3 days after I switched to iPhone but I was nowhere near the pool or shower with my iPhone 12 Pro max.
After a couple of research and I was unable to charge my iPhone 12 Pro Max, I was able to detect a service-free that can be used to fix charging not available liquid detected. First, I chose to go with wireless charging when my iPhone battery was getting drained with no hope of how to fix this.
Apple itself advises users with the charging not available liquid detected to let the lightning connector dry naturally without aiding it but this could last for hours or even days. And after the hours, fixing isn’t guaranteed.
I did leave my iPhone overnight but when I plugged it in the morning it popped up the same lightning warning message with the option to either dismiss or force the device to charge because of an emergency but this would put your iPhone in danger.

Your iPhone can display charging not available liquid detected even when your device is not wet. So, if your iPhone display charging not available liquid detected but not wet, then, the following could be the reason why this is happening to your iPhone 11 device.
1. Your iPhone Charger was Burnt
My iPhone 12 Pro Max 15w charger got burnt 3 days after I bought the device [brand] new and I was surprised. Although this came as a result of poor electrical connection. However, I was charging the device on a power supply before it was switched to a generator and my charger got burnt.
A few hours after when they restore the light and I tried to charge the phone and I was slammed with charging now may damage your iPhone. However, if you smell the iPhone charging port it may be smelling like burning plastic and this may [under verification] transmit particles to the charging port.

Unplug all Accessories
The first thing to do whenever your iPhone displays charging not available is to disconnect all accessories including your wireless charger and let the iPhone dry. That is the first and most recommended precaution to take to fix your iPhone when it’s not charging.
Find a Way to Remove the Water if it’s Truly Wet

- Tap the back of the iPhone gently to force the water out.
- Place the iPhone against a device to make it stand and leave it for at least 30 minutes to remove the liquid that is stuck in the phone.
Connect the lightning cable to your iPhone lightning connector and connect it to your power adapter to see whether your iPhone will start charging or not. If it does then the liquid has been removed successfully but if after a couple of minutes, you see Charging not Available: Liquid has been detected in the lightning connector. disconnect to allow the connector to dry. Charging now may damage your iPhone, then, disconnect the iPhone accessories and try the next troubleshooting tips.
Clean the iPhone Lightning Connector
Cleaning my iPhone lightning connector with cotton board helped me to fix Charging not Available: Liquid has been detected in the lightning connector. disconnect to allow the connector to dry. Charging now may damage your iPhone without waiting further.
However, you also need a hammer to clean your iPhone not charging lightning connect [provided your phone doesn’t fall in water or shower or pool]. So, if you know that your iPhone is not wet but keep saying charging not available when iPhone is not wet then try the following steps.
- Disconnect your iPhone lightning connector and its accessories.
- Beat the cotton board [white cotton board] to a rectangular shape.
- Insert the cotton board into the lightning connector port and clean it with the cotton board.
- Repeat the same process for 2 to 3 cotton boards until all debris and dirt are removed from the lightning port.
- Connect the iPhone accessories and charge it to see whether the iPhone charging not available will be fixed.
Note: Do not clean your iPhone lightning connector port with a volatile liquid such as alcohol or methylated spirit as this can damage your iPhone.
Restart your iPhone
You can fix your iPhone not charging due to the liquid detector on the lightning connector by just restarting your phone. This seems too basic though but some Reddit users can confirm that restarting their iPhone fixes without overriding the liquid detector warning message.
- Press and hold the “Power” button and either of the “Volume” button.
- Wait until the “Shut Down” slider appears.
- Drag the slider to the right.
Wait for the iPhone to shut down completely. Then, wait for at least 30 seconds and press the power button to turn on your iPhone. Once you have completed both cycles try to connect your iPhone Lightning connect and see whether the warning message “charging not available” will pop up again. If it doesn’t then you are good to go.
Test Another Lightning Cable/Adapter
If none of the troubleshooting tips works to fix your iPhone lightning charging connector then it might be that your lightning cable [charger] is damaged. To confirm this, get another charger/cable to confirm whether the warning message “charging not available” will still pop up.
If the warning message disappears then it means that your connector is damaged and needs to be replaced but if not then you may need to contact your manufacturer for a replacement if the warranty still covers it.
Use a Wireless Charger
Alternatively, if your iPhone is not charging via the lightning connector the only solution is to resolve to using a wireless cable. With this, you no longer need to plug in your lightning cable into your iPhone lightning connector. All you’d need to do is place your iPhone on the wireless charger to charge it.
This however cost a few dollars to get depending on the type and manufacturer, But for $20 you can get a reasonable wireless charger. However, if you’d need an Apple-made wireless charger you may need to cough more than 20 dollars.
