Since the old days of the Galaxy S3, Samsung has been known to produce lite variants of its flagship products. However, this has changed over the years after numerous customer complaints and the general improvement in the SME market. In 2019, Samsung company decided to revive this concept using the Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite.
Both devices were really capable, offered a truly iconic experience, and weren’t just bad versions of last year’s flagship products. As recently reported by the company, Samsung is currently planning a Galaxy S20 Lite. The company could be busy with the next Note 20 series, but it’s quite possible to see Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite in October.
According to the South Korean media ETNews, Samsung could target the October window to launch the new affordable member of the Galaxy S20 family. It should be noted that the device’s name is waiting for confirmation.
ETNews calls it “Galaxy S20 Pen Edition”, which is a strange name for the S20 series. However, it’s impossible to disregard the presence of an S-Pen and closer connections to the Galaxy Note series.
Other speculations suggest that the phone is called Galaxy S20 Fan Edition or simply S20 Lite. According to the previous report, the device will carry Samsung’s One UI 2.5 software and should work on the Snapdragon 865 platform. The rest of the specifications are still unclear for now.
Samsung wants a smartphone every month after August to revive its smartphone business.
The report also confirms the launch of this phone in the second half of the year, expected in October.
Samsung is currently busy with the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G series. As recently reported by the company, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will not be ready for an announcement in August.
Therefore, Samsung has decided not to start it until September. This is part of Samsung’s recovery strategy in the second half of 2020. As previously reported, Samsung is currently facing a direct hit from COVID-19. The smartphone market is showing the first signs of recovery.
The South Korean company will take every opportunity to resume operations, while the materials and components industry has had a significant impact due to COVID-19.
The Galaxy S20 Lite may just be the beginning of 2020 Lite smartphones. We are likely to see a Galaxy Note 20 Lite by the end of the year or early January 2021.
