If you are currently using Windows 10 and want the latest version or want to switch to another operating system, this is possible, but it can lead to confusing steps. By downloading and installing a Windows 10 ISO file, you can install the latest Microsoft operating system.
If you don’t know how to download and install a Windows 10 ISO file, the basics are covered. Read on to find out what you need to do.
Download ISO Windows 10 from Microsoft on Windows
First, go to the Windows 10 download page and click the blue download Now button. If you are on a Windows 7, 8, or 10 computer, you will be offered the Windows 10 download tool. Otherwise, you can go to step 2.
With this tool, you can easily convert any USB drive to the Windows 10 startup installer and download the Windows 10 ISO file for future use. Run the tool after unloading. You will be asked whether you want to update your current PC or create installation media for another PC.
Select Create installation media for another PC as shown above, then click Next. You will be asked to select the desired language, architecture, and edition of Windows. In general, it is better to select the use this recommended option for this PC checkbox. However, you can also customize and select a language other than the Windows edition, e.g., Windows 10 Pro or Home.
If you then want to install Windows on your PC, select the ISO file option. This will save a file that you can click later (as in step 3) to update your PC to Windows 10. You can also burn Windows 10 to ISO if you wish. In this case, you can go to step 4.
Otherwise, select the USB flash drive option if you want to create a USB flash drive. In this way, you can create a bootable USB drive with which you can delete everything from your computer and carry out a so-called “reinstallation.” You can also use this USB drive on other computers to install Windows. With this option, all you have to do is select your USB stick and download Windows 10. However, note that everything on the hard drive will be erased.
However, the ISO file is the safest method for people. When you select the ISO file, click Next. You will be required to select where you will like to save the ISO file. Once the download is complete, the ISO file is on your computer’s hard drive. You can skip stepping 3 to learn more.
Download Microsoft Windows 10 ISO on Mac, Windows Vista / XP Computers and Linux,
Windows 10 Downloader only works on Windows 7, 8, or 10 computers. If you are not using any of these operating systems, you can still download Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft. Just go to the Windows 10 download page, and you will find that you are not using a compatible operating system.
On this page, you can choose the version of Windows 10 to download. 32-bit and 64-bit ISOs are offered in the language of your choice. You can then copy the ISO file to a USB drive and transfer it to a Windows laptop or desktop computer to continue the installation.
Install Windows 10 Directly from ISO from Windows 7 or 8 / 8.1
If you are using Windows 8 or higher, you can upgrade your PC or laptop to Windows 10 by providing the ISO file you just downloaded.
Double-click on it. Windows displays the ISO as if it were a DVD drive.
From there, you can install Windows 10. Simply open setup.exe, and the installer will open.
From there, you can instead install Windows 10 and leave your files and programs behind.
ISO will copy all the necessary data to your computer, which will eventually restart your PC to complete the installation process.
If you are running Windows 7 or earlier, the ability to mount ISO is not built into Windows.
However, you can download the virtual clone drive and use it to mount ISO files.
Once you have installed the device, the installation works in the same way as described above. You can also try the Windows 10 Upgrade Wizard if you want to upgrade Windows 10.
Burn Windows 10 ISO to DVD
If your computer has a DVD burner and you have a writable DVD, you can burn Windows 10 ISO to DVD and install Windows 10 by booting from there. Right-click on the ISO file, then click on the Burn Disc option.
The Windows Disk Image Recorder opens and asks you which drive you to want to use.
When you’re done, click Burn to start the process. When the process is complete, you will have a bootable DVD that you can use to install Windows. You can use other software to burn your ISO image, but the built-in software is fairly easy to use.
Most computers should boot from the DVD by default. In some cases, however, you may need to access your computer’s start menu to install Windows 10 from the DVD.
It is annoying that this requires a different key combination on different devices. However, if you’re careful about starting your computer, you should read the instructions for accessing the Start menu.
Other uses of the Windows 10 ISO File
There are many other uses for a Windows 10 ISO file. For example, you might want to install Windows 10 on your Mac or configure Windows 10 in a virtual machine application. In any case, the ISO file is the preferred tool for installing Windows 10.
In both cases, you need a valid Windows 10 product key to install Windows 10. This is not a problem on computers that are currently running Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1.
You can upgrade on-site, and Windows 10 will recognize your previous license. Otherwise, you can use the product key on your device – just look for a sticker.
However, the free ISO file is not a free Windows license. It’s simply a more concise way to install Windows 10.
Mac users, custom PC creators, and anyone installing on a virtual machine need a product key to legally install Windows 10. You may purchase Windows 10 Home for just a token of $ 120.
