  • Remove other Users
  • Cancel Protection
  • Remove the Payment Information from Your Account
  • Remove Ring Doorbell from Account

Download Videos

Before you transfer Ring Doorbell to new owner, you might want to save your valuable video recordings to your HDR

Follow these steps to download:

  • Go to Ring App
  • Go to Video Section
  • Proceed to Download videos 

Remove other Users

Thereafter, you have to delete the access to the Ring Doorbell that you might have given other users. 

To do so, follow these steps:

  • Go to Ring App
  • Tap the Ring doorbell from the Dashboard
  • Tap on the Ellipsis (…)
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Users
  • Tap Shared User Profile
  • Tap Remove User.

Do this each for all the users that you must have added.

Cancel Protection Plan

Remove the Payment Information from Your Account

The first thing the old owner should do in this case is to remove all payment methods used in the Ring account to avoid being billed for another subscription.

To achieve this you will have to do so from your PC/Mobile Browser, from there you will access the Ring website using your web browser (put your mobile browser in desktop mode). Note, the Ring App cannot remove your payment information. 

Below is the process of removal of the payment information:

  • Go to the browser on your PC/Phone (For Phones, select use Desktop site)
  • Go to the Ring website.
  • Log in using your current Ring account information.
  • Tap/Select on your name after logging in. 
  • It will open a bar; Select Account.
  • On this page, select the “credit card on file” option.
  • You can delete your credit card information by clicking/tapping the remove (x) icon on top of the card. This will then remove your payment information from the account. 

This is as easy as it gets, just note that it cannot be carried out using the Ring App. These simple steps will delete your prior payment information before you transfer Ring Doorbell to new owner.

Contact Ring Support to Cancel Plan and Get a Refund

I get some people might be a bit reluctant in doing the above process because they have an active paid plan. Ring offers you a refund for the inactive time during your subscription download to the cloud.

  • Call them at 1-800-656-1918

Ring would then disconnect your subscription or refund you whenever you delete your payment information and contact them for a refund. 

 Remove Ownership of Ring Doorbell from Account

After the previous step, you can now move to the next by removing Ring Doorbell from your account. Follow these steps to do so:

  • Open the Ring app.
  • Log-in
  • Tap on Device or the ellipsis (…) besides device name
  • Tap settings.
  • Tap the red button reading, “REMOVE DEVICE.”

This should delete the doorbell from your account, but if you notice otherwise, you would need to contact Ring Support to inform them of the malfunction. 

How do you reset the Ring Doorbell for a new owner?

Having a factory reset on your Ring Doorbell is not required for a transfer but it can be done as just a simple formality or a precaution to rid your device of its previous settings (like Wi-Fi settings, secondary users passwords, etc) from the device.

Here is how to perform a factory reset on a Ring Doorbell device:

  • Remove the Ring backplate 
  • Locate the Orange reset button behind the device.
  • Press and hold the orange button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • You will see the ring blink as an indication of a successful reset.

How to Remove a Ring Device from Account

On the Ring app, you can remove a Ring device from your account if you want to give it out or get a new one. When you do this, it is refreshed for a new owner to use. All you have to do is to follow these seven easy steps.
  1. Open the Ring app and Log in.
  2. Tap the menu tab  (the three lines you will find at the top left.)
  3. Tap Devices.
  4. Amongst the list of devices, choose the one you want to remove from your ownership.
  5. Tap Device Settings.

You can link your Ring Doorbell to your new device with the following steps:
