How to Change Routers Password

192.168 ll is the IP address of most router like TPlink, PTCL, WiFi, MiFi, Smile, and many other Routers for a wireless internet connection. When you forget access to the IP address 192.168 ll on your router you may be a victim of hackers. That is why it’s most advisable to change WiFi password at least once in 3 months.

So, if you can still remember your router username and the IP address, then, to change the old password to a new one won’t cost you a dime. Note that the IP address may differ.

Change IP 192.168 ll Username and Password on  TP-Link

For those of you that are using TP-link router here is how to change the username and password

Open a web browser on your PC and type your LAN IP address of the WiFi ADSL router in the browser’s address bar and click on the enter button. For a TP-Link ADSL, the router default IP address is “192.168.1.1”. So, you have to type https://192.168.1.1 in the address bar

Type your router username and password login. This time, you are expected to use your old TP-link username and password to access your admin page.

Once you are logged in, go to Management>>Access Control >> Password. You will see this on the left side of the admin interface. Now, enter the old password you want to change and enter the new password and confirm it. After, click on save/apply to change your router password on the IP address “192.168.1.1”

Note: The above steps only worked to TP-Links with router brand TD-W8960N/TD-W8960NB/TD-W8950ND.

For TrendChip TP-Link router brand TD-W8961ND/TD-W8951ND/TD-W8901G/TD-W8901GB/TD-W8901G/TD-W8101G/TD-8840T/TD-8817/TD-8816follow the steps below to change the IP address “192.168.1.1 username and password.

Open a browser on your PC and visit the LAN default IP address, 192.168.l.l of your WiFi ADSL router.

On the login page where you are asked to log in to your TP-Link account enter the old username and password to log in to your account.

Now, click on Maintenance > Administration. Enter the new password and confirm it in the column below and click save.

This will change your router password from old one to the new one. And henceforth, to access your router when you type the IP address into your browser and click on the enter button, the password is the new password created above.

For a TP-Link router with a brand TD-W8970/TD-W8980/TD-W9970/TD-W9980. This is often referred to as a self-developed interface. Follow this guide to change the password.

Open a web browser on your PC and type your LAN IP address of the WiFi ADSL router in the browser’s address bar and click on the enter button. For a TP-Link ADSL, the router default IP address is “192.168.1.1”. So, you have to type https://192.168.1.1 in the address bar

Now go to System Tools >> Manage control >>Account management. Enter your old password and create a new password and confirm it. After tha click on save to effect changes.

Note: The username and password must not exceed 15 characters in length.

After you have successfully changed your LAN router’s password you will be logged out on all devices you have logged in. Therefore, when next you want to login, you must always use the new password.

How to Change IP Address 192.168 ll Password on D-Link

If you own choice of LAN ADSL router is D-Link here is how to change the password from the default password to a new password.

Open a browser of your choice and visit any of the following links http://dlinkrouter or http://dlinkrouter.local or http://192.168.0.1

Log into your D-Link admin area with the default password and username. If you have changed the default router username and password just login with the one you are using.

Go to Setup >> Wireless Settings >> Manual Wireless Network Setup

Scroll down to Wireless Security Mode. This is where users can change their wireless password successfully.

Save settings and you are done. Also, if you have a valid account with mydlink you can log into your account for more settings at eu.mydlink.com.

Change LAN IP 192.168.0.1 Address Password

Here is another approach to change your password on my-Dlink router. It’s the same like 192.168 ll

Open a new browser tap and go to mydlink.com

Log in to myD-Link account with your username and password

Go to My Devices >>Router >> Settings

Scroll down to basic settings to modify the password and change the old password to a new one.

How to Change Netgear Router Password

A Netgear router has a unique IP address 192.168.0.1. Users can either use this LAN ADSL IP address to change their password or http://www.routerlogin.net to modify the password. The IP address 192.168.0.1 is different from 192.168 ll. If you own a Netgear router here is how to change the password.

Open any browser and visit 192.168.0.1 or http://www.routerlogin.net

Enter the Netgear default username and password. And if you have created a new password since you got it then enters it and click on login.

Now, go to basic homepage >> Wireless >>Enter the username in the SSID

Go to Password (Network Key) and create a new password and click on apply to save the change.

Not all routers have the same IP address as shared above. However, whatever router you are using the same procedure to log in to your admin arena remain the same. However, there is always a unique IP address for all ADSL LAN router such as 192.168 ll. 

And in most times, to find your IP address you can simply check the back of the router’s package where the username is written.
