1. Download Spigot
To get a working Spigot server, you must first download Spigot. Simply click here or on the download button above the link above to go to the Spigot download page. Once there, you’ll want to find the version of Spigot that you want to install. When you find it, just click the yellow “Download” button on the right side of the screen of the version you want.
This will take you to another page that has the version of Spigot you downloaded in the header. Scroll down a little and you will see several ads. In the middle of all these announcements is a little grey box that says “You’re about to download: Spigot-version.jar”. Click on “Spigot” in this field and your Spigot server file will be downloaded. You may need to confirm that you want to “keep” the file in your browser to complete the download.
2. Create a new folder for your server
After you’ve downloaded the file from the Spigot server, you’ll need to create a folder to host your server. I usually do this on the desktop so it’s easily accessible. You can name this new folder whatever you want. However, make sure that it is easy to identify so you don’t accidentally delete it and lose your entire server. After creating the new folder, drag the downloaded spigot file into it.
3. Build your run.bat file
Once you have your spigot file in its folder, you’ll need to create a file for it to work. To do this, we create a new text document with an editor. Paste the following code into this new text document. You will also need to rename the downloaded JAR file to “spigot.jar” for this to work.
After pasting the above code into your notepad document, you need to click on “File” and then click on “Save As”. The save dialogue is then opened in which you want to name the file “run.bat”. After that, you need to make sure that “Files of type:” is changed from “Text Documents” to “All Files”. When you’re done, you can click Save. You can now close all open editor documents.
4. Run your server and accept the EULA
After creating the run.bat file, double click on it. When you do, a CMD box will open, perform some operations, and ask you to press any key to continue. When you do this, the command prompt will close. However, you will find that some folders and text documents have magically appeared in your Spigot Server folder. You want to click on the heading “EULA” and open it in the editor. Once it’s open, just find the line “EULA = false” and change it to “EULA = true”. This means that you agree to the Minecraft EULA. So be sure to read it through and agree to it before you make this change.
5. Run the server again and let everything download
After accepting the EULA, you will need to double-click the run.bat file again. This will download everything else related to the server. The server takes a few minutes. Just watch the CMD until it says “Done”. Once you’ve finally said that, you can type “stop” and hit enter. This will shut down the server. You should now have tons of different folders and files in the Spigot server folder you created earlier. It’s good. At this point, you and everyone else on your network who think of the same house as you can join your server with “localhost” as the IP address. Just start the server and you are done. However, if you want to allow people across the street or around the world to join your server, then you need to go ahead!
6. Find your IPv4 address and your default gateway
Your server is set up, but to play with people online you need to do a few other things. First of all, you need to open your command prompt. To do this, go to the start menu and search for “CMD”. A program will appear and you will need to right-click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
After opening the Command Prompt, just type “ipconfig” and hit Enter. This results in a range of random information being sent through the prompt. When you’re done, find your IPv4 address and default gateway. You need both numbers so that your server is available to the public. Write them down by copying them onto a notepad or just leave the CMD open. Once you have these numbers you can proceed.
7. Log into your router
Now we need to connect to your router. To do this, simply take your default gateway and enter it as a website in your browser. A login box will appear on your screen. Here you would like to enter the username and password of your router. This is different from your WiFi password. There are many different ways to find this information. You can find our detailed guide by clicking here.
8. Forward your router’s port
After you’ve connected to your router, it’s time to broadcast it. It’s very easy once you find the right place. Just search for “Port Forwarding”, “Apps & Games”, “Single Port Forwarding” or something similar. It can also be “advanced” or “safe”. So just click around your router until you find it. You won’t spoil anything, so don’t worry.
Once you find your router’s port forwarding section, it’s time to forward the port. You want to add a new forwarding port with a start / inside port of “25565” and an end / outside port of 25565. You want the protocol to be UDP / TCP, UDP and TCP, or Both. “Whichever option you choose, make sure both TCP and UDP are selected. For your IP address, this will be IPv4 -Address we found earlier. After entering all of this information, save the port forwarding. Congratulations! The hard part is already done.
9. Run-on your server
All you have to do is start your server! To do this, go back to the folder you created in Step 2 and double-click the Run.bat file we created in Step 3. A command prompt window opens. Server starts. To join the server, simply open Minecraft, click “Multiplayer”, then click “Direct Connect” in the lower centre of the screen. Enter your IPv4 address here and click on “Join server”. Then it starts on your spigot server!
Note: If you want your friends or family to play on your server, they will need to join your public IP address. To find it, just click here and you’ll see your public IP address in the middle of the screen. Give this IP address to your friends to join your server. If your friends are having trouble getting your public IP address, check to see if your port forwarding was successful. If you still can’t join, turn off the firewalls on your router and computer. Not recommended, but your friends can join in if they can’t.
10. Install some Spigot plugins
