If you are a fan of Chrome browser you can’t do away from the Err_Connection_Timed_out. The error is mostly caused by poor internet connection or unable to connect to your internet IP address.
The most annoying part of the Err_Connection_Timed_out is that the problem isn’t not always an internal problem. It’s different from the error 0xc0000005 you encounter when you have a low memory storage or low RAM in your computer.
The error Err_Connection_Timed_out isn’t really a technical error you cannot fix yourself. However, here we highlight a few ways to fix the error on your Chrome browser.
Why Error Err_Connection_Timed_out?
The main reason why you are seeing this error varies. It can be as a result of your LAN settings, failed internet connection, etc.
With the LAN settings you can configure your local network IP. However, any misconfiguration can cause the Err_Connection_Timed_out error when you try to use Chrome browser.
When the server settings is misconfigured it can slow down the connection time there by resulting to the connection time error.
However, here are some of the fast approaches you can follow to fix the error on your Chrome whenever you try to connect to the internet.
Change LAN Settings
You have to change your LAN settings to make sure everything are in other if you are encountering this error. A little tweak on your LAN settings can make your connection work again.
- Open Control panel
- Choose View by Large icons
- Click Internet Options
- Under Connections pane, click LAN settings
- Unticked all the items
- Click OK
Once you are done with the above steps, go back to your Chrome browser and reload the page. The error code will disappear and you will be able to connect to the internet. However, if the error still exist, try to restart the browser and it should start working fine.
Flush the DNS
If the error is caused by a conflict with your DNS you need to flush it to reset it.
The more reason why you need to flush your DNS is that the DNS is responsible for returning the IP address of your server on your host domain when you type a site address in your address bar and you try to visit the site.
When the DNS spend much time to return the IP address to your domain host you’d likely see the Err_Connection_Timed_out return from the site you are trying to visit.
However, here is how to flush your DNS…
- Hold down the Win + R to open Run
- Type services.cmd and click OK
- Type in the commands one below the other and after each one, hit the enter key
- ipconfig /registerdns
- ipconfig /release
- ipconfig /renew
- netsh winsock reset
Now, after the above command, restart your PC, visit the webpage again and everything should be fine.
Check your Network Connection
The network connection error can be caused by poor internet connection or if you are using a WiFi via your phone and a call came in, there is possibility that Err_Connection_Timed_out Chrome is as a result of the poor internet connection.
When this happens, first, check your internet connection that you are not just connected to the internet with the internet access. However, to fix this, disconnect from the WiFi you are connected and reconnect again.

- Checking the network cables, modem, and router
- Reconnecting to Wi-Fi
- Running Windows Network Diagnostics
Clear Chrome Browser Caches
You can also clear your Chrome browser history to fix the Chrome browser timeout if your LAN settings is properly configured, flush your DNS, and the Windows Network diagnostics.
- Click the more option to the top right of Chrome
- Click on Settings
- Scroll down the page and click advanced settings to expand the settings
- Go to Privacy
- Click Clear browsing data
- Choose the beginning of time (since when you noticed the error)
- Tick all the items
- Click Clear browsing data
